In case you are worried that I am going to moonwalk, get my nose bobbed, or start a petting ranch…relax. The only way I intend to emulate Michael Jackson is to wear one glove. And I am not even going to wear it in public – just in the privacy of my Little Workshop.
I am encouraged to this decision by three things:
a. Seeing one of the smarter scale model painters on youtube – Mr. Damek – use one glove on his left hand while spray painting.
b. Watching all the nursing staff in Murdoch Hospital change into and out of gloves with such facility. I remember being that dexterous whilst in practice and it cannot be hard to re-acquire the skill.
c. Looking at the nails on my left hand whilst in bed there. Apparently I sprayed Tamiya Rubber black just prior to my hospitalisation and it settled into the nails. They looked like I was a day labourer in a coal mine and I felt throughly ashamed. I had no idea acrylic could stick that long.
So it is off to Bunnings as soon as mobility returns to see what cheap gloves cost – they are likely to be less expensive there than at the chemist or a professional supply place. I have an old box of medium gloves here that do not fit well, so a large or extra-large will be the go.
This will also be likely to have a good effect upon the actual finish of the models – because I am sure that there have been a number of times when contamination from my fingers has spoiled the way a coat of paint has laid onto a surface. Along with the sensible tip of pressure-washing the surface via air brush, this should be another step toward more assured finish.
