It’s Back…In Black

You can’t write this stuff, Folks.

I finished my coverage of the Boulton Paul Defiant Mk I yesterday with the final pictures of the day fighter version sitting on a deserted airfield. Then I put it into Steins Air World museum to await use as a photo prop. I pottered about all day in the Little Workshop making hangars and buildings, but finished in time to go out to dinner with good friends.

When I arrived at their house they presented me with a gift – something to fall halfway between Hanukkah and Christmas, as I do. They insisted I open it immediately  – to observe the look on my face. The contents of the parcel? – see heading image.

They both regularly read my columns and were possibly horrified when the model they had so carefully selected for me appeared in a series of building posts. But they can rest assured that the circumstance is a grand one – I had plans to eventually build the Defiant in the night fighter variant with lowered fairings and raised undercarriage – this just means that I will be doing it sooner than later.

Just as well that I have a couple of pots of Mr. Color satin black lacquer to hand.

Now to devise a flying stand to display it. Perspex? Wire? Brass rod? Wooden base? Black metal base? Oooh – new ideas to try out.
