A casual question in the local hobby shop sent my heart to my boots. The brand of paint to which I had pinned my hopes – the brand that I had determined to change to – the best material with which I have yet worked – had lost their Australian distributor. What I saw on the hobby shop shelf was all there was going to be. I was going to have to re-convert to another painting system…
Well crapitations. To have victory snatched away so soon after seeing it.
So I decided to fight back. I reviewed the internet for other shops that had stocks. I rang them up and asked about mail order. I studied the paint chart and determined which ones are used most and would be needed for the future. Then I went to the bank and took out a large bill and went to the hobby shop with a paint list.
It is exhilarating to fill a shopping basket with paint. Once I got past 20 bottles I was in to 10% discount territory. I couldn’t fill all the order, but I got most of the numbered bottles I need. They will remain sealed until need compels me to open them.
The really good news was the next discussion with a different employee – there is apparent negotiation between the Japanese manufacturer of the paint and other wholesalers in Australia to take over the distribution. And it will be done on a larger basis. I hope this will provide a wider range of accessories as well – because the Japanese maker certainly has a comprehensive line of goods. I’ve not had a bad product from them, so any news of return will be good news.
