MiG 15 – Part Four – Seams To be Working

The anhedral of the MiG 15 wings… -3º…was cranked into the build today and I like to think it was successful. You’ve seen the jigging in the last post. The cementation was Mr. Cement Deluxe smeared on both the wing and the fuselage. It sets up pretty quickly and goes hard enough for jazz well within two hours. By the end of dinner it was ready to go.

But look at the gap at the wing root. As good as the fuselage is, the Zvezda people have left a pretty big trench where the wings join the body – and this is after careful fettling and trimming. Putty time.

I am using the technique of masking tape as a dam around the filled area to limit the amount of cleanup needed. All very civilised.

What is not so civilised is that bloody great trench between the parts of the lower wing. Really Zvezda – other makers also resort to two-part wings but they do not leave a gap you could insert a skunk into.

I think this may be the time to try making up some cement/sprue liquid filler to see if it can be brushed shut.

  1. I find vallejo plastic putty can work well in those gaps

    1. Thank you, Paul. I’m off to the Melbourne hobby shop tomorrow and I’ll pick up a tube to try it out.
