Gloster Meteor F.1 – Part Two – A Grey Week

Actually it has been quite a bright week, weather and all things considered. But it has been a week of grey toil on the Gloster Meteor – and here are the results so far on the Ess Bend shop floor.

The heading image is a dry fit of fuselage to wing unit. I need to craft the nose and belly weight this weekend to bring it down upon the front wheels. There is little space for it in the nose – just a slit under the cockpit tub and a broad shelf forward of the wing. But the makers seem to feel this will be a suitable place so I must follow their lead.

Have a look at how well the belly seams fit with just dry placement.

The wing unit on the starboard side has an empty nacelle with a stub exhaust.

But the port engine is in place and the display will feature a cover that can be removed at will. The fit is tight enough that it can be painted in situ.

The fuselage seams are good and the nose compartment has a large enough attachment point to ensure the gear is held well – I am hoping to avoid the need for PVA gear re-enforcement with this kit.

It is quite the nicest jet so far – fully in synch with the Academy Banshee.
