In full sight, but strangely hidden. The detail that has emerged with the undercoating of the Catalina is astounding.
I normally do not effuse about rivet details or sunken and raised panel lines. I am a modeller of the Olde Schoole and as catholic as anyone of hebraic faith might be as far as admitting different kits to my fold. I accept ’em all…as long as they fit together. Yet I can still be astounded and gratified when I see the results of a good maker.

I consider Academy to be just such a firm. I have built almost a dozen of their kits over the last couple of years and have not had a bad egg in the crate. They have sometimes been simpler than I expected, but never of a bad shape or fit. And the detail seen here on this Catalina is world-class.

It would almost seem a shame to cover such riveting with a colour coat – and a colour coat as dark as the Israeli Cat will have. Yet, if you don’t play true to the prototype, you might as well not play.
