IAI Kfir C-1 – Part One – The New Lion Cub

My success with the diorama shelves for my IKEA bookcases has inspired me to expand my aero museum theme. I have two shelves set out as Schmattarim Museum and am busy finding Israeli and related middle eastern aircraft to fill them. I suspect I’ll be able to add a couple more before the theme is exhausted.

And isn’t it nice – Special Hobby has made some specialist planes and Italeri can supply a number of the more common modern ones – the Kfir C-1 is the first of the modern jets.

Note that I have implicit faith in Italeri – like Airfix, I have never had a bad model from them. Admittedly I am concentrating on their more recent mouldings, but if the results are good, I am not complaining.

Note also the simple sprue trees for this Kfir – no flash, no sink marks, hardly any ejector pins to worry about.

The decal sheet – three versions straight off the sheet and enough stencils to give you decal blindness. And i’m going to have to make sure I get the writing the right way up as it is in Hebrew. At least you won’t be missing which side this one is on with those orange ID triangles.

  1. It does seem a little bonkers to camouflage something then stick dirty great yellow triangles on it!

    1. Well, it shows that the boys in the camo shop are doing their job. If you have to flag your hidden airplane it may be that the pilots are losing them in shopping centre car parks.
