The RAAF wartime colours of Foliage Green and Sky Blue were not shown on the DK decals sheet that prompted the construction of this Hurricane, but they crop up in innumerable other sets of decals and aircraft profiles. As I have not done one exactly like this, it became the logical choice. And fortunately most internet resources tipped Mr Color No. 302 as a good choice.

As a Hobby Boss kit is one of the most precise of the quicky kits, the basic thing was purchased on Wednesday and finished on Friday. It will be in the Air World museum by Sunday to complete the RAAF hall for the coming WAsmex model show*. After that, one more Coastal Command plane – which should finish by next week – and it is on to the finicky modelling of museum furniture and 1:72 patrons. I think I need a plastic bag of HO figures and a production line. I’m either going to get good fast or go mad.

The basic Hurricane wasn’t altered past the removal of the 20mm cannon and their associated housings. Unfortunately the Hobby Boss open canopy option is not a good one – the canopy fits too tightly on the fuselage of the plane and looks to be too high. So it’s closed canopy. A packet of aftermarket vacform canopies would be nice.

Apparently V7476 survived the war to be sold off – eventually being bought by an enthusiast who subsequently scrapped it. Nothing remains, but it is an intriguing addition to the collection.

Note that the DK decals are rather good – they release quickly and hold up to handling well – and there is no silvering at all, even though this has not been gloss coated prior to their application.
* That never did come off due to Covid 19.
