Vickers Delta Mk III – Part Three – MX-B

That book is a gem. It’s got MX-B both as a profile drawing and in actual photographs. It’s also got photos of their base in British Columbia – perhaps I’ll build a seaplane base one day.

For now, MX-B will feature in the Coastal Command hall in the Air World museum. Its colour is a fine counterpoint to the camouflage schemes of the Bolingbroke and Wellington. I am not sure if a Delta ever dropped anything in anger, but at least this one has 8 little bombs on racks.  It wouldn’t have been the terror of the U-Boats but it could probably have made a mess of an enemy codfish trawler.

The fuselage of this Delta bears a lot of similarity to the RAAF Delta I but has big cargo doors, additional windows under the cockpit, and a ventral port for a .30 machine gun. The codfish boats again, one presumes.

The paint used was a combination of Mr. Color Super Silver and plain Silver. Not a case of finicky art – I just had two half-empty bottles that needed using up. The final coat is a rattle can of Mr. Hobby Topcoat and I am delighted with the even coverage. Maybe the imminent disappearance of Testors Dullcote is not such a wrench after all.

Check back in a few weeks for the next chapter in the Delta saga when the high-tailed landplane is under way.
