Beechcraft Model 18 – Part Two – Individual Excellence

The new model is going together very quickly – aided by reasonably accurate fit in the disparate sub-assemblies.

I use the term disparate, because while these components are well suited in themselves…they all hold a proud independence in their geometry. In simpler terms, they fit, but not to each other. This was a phenomenon noted a couple of years ago when I built an old Airfix model that had warped out over time. Each component there had a slightly different angle to it, and had it been a real aircraft, the pilot would have crawled shakily from the cockpit and resigned his commission on the spot.

This will be adjusted on the Beech 18 by a filing here and a fiddling there, and eventually there will be an airplane. There are not many parts and the choice of moulding lines is a little casual, but it should all look sleek under a coat of paint. The wing roots are the chief culprits but there is enough plastic on them plus the fuselage to file them into some symmetry.

I just remember…$ 19.
