In for a Pound. Or Yen, as it happens. I go whole-hog with a new idea.
The pre-shading concept is not new to others, but it’s fresh to me. I’ve done a lot of Google study to see if it is a good idea and have decided that I have no idea – but a fresh model used as a Guinea pig will show me whether it is something I should learn.
I have not gone to this haphazardly – I’ve watched YouTube modellers of varied skill use it on kits from 1/144 to 1/32 with what looks like success. I’ve had a talk with our club expert and seen examples in the display cabinets. It looks good, but I am still cautious.

So I have decided to sacrifice the Mitsubishi Peggy to try out the system. The glide bomb was first with gloss black lacquer as the line paint and grey/green as the final coat. It is a little crude but rewarding enough to stir me to paint the main airframe.

I am also going to be bold and freehand the top/bottom colour coats.
Wish me luck.
