Douglas Skyhawk – Part Three – Freehand

The Skyhawk is almost done, and so am I. I elected to give this one the full pre-shading and then a freehand three-tone camouflage scheme…as much to see if i could do it as to make it look authentic.

I am not sure about the authenticity, but I did discover that I do not like doing the business this way. The margin for error is so small and the results so wishy-washy, that I will probably not do it again.

I do not like three-tone schemes at the best of times, though I admire the green/brown/sand of the IAF modern scheme. The further need to avoid washing out the pre-shading made the pastel effect worse.

But I am one step away from the finish.

BTW, that scheme of using dental wax for spray masks fizzled out. The wax either stuck too much or not at all.
