Petlyakov Pe-2 – Part Two – The Greyhound

This Petlyakov light bomber reminds me of a greyhound.

I’ve had to attach the landing gear early in the build – the plates that hold the legs drop in from the top of the nacelle before the wing halves close. Not my procedure of choice, but it is the only way to get really sturdy legs on this one. I’ll keep the wheels on when painted to prevent busting a landing gear leg.

The inside, as noted before, is bare. The cockpit is sparse. None of this is a problem, however as the seat and control column provided look good enough as is.

The legs are long and the bomber will really stretch up on the tarmac. There are external stores ( well, there’s no internal bomb space anyway ) and they need room to hang.

As a kit, the fit is great. The wing roots fit well and there are moulded posts to help location. Even the cantilevered tail with the vertical rudders was easy to set up. I’ve used thin Mr. Cement and also taken the coward’s option of reinforcing any minute gaps with cyanoacrylate.
