Would be a darn sight easier than selling completed scale models. I am about to confirm this as I have put some 1:18 dioramas up for sale. It’s a couple of months away from the annual scale model car show and rather than haul the dioramas to the show and try to sell them there, I thought I’d try the flea market on line first.
I’ll also put up a For Sale sign at our model clubrooms, but that will probably not get a bite. Collectors are looking in other places.
This is not a despair sale – I have long ago moved on the collection of 1:18 scale vehicles for a fair price, and these sets and accessories are taking up a massive amount of storage space in my model room. That is the downside to larger scale collecting: space is finite, even if our hoarding instinct is not.
I suspect I’ll get a schmatterhandel dealer call or two, but my pricing is firm and fair…and if the money is paid I do not care what on-selling might fetch. I have never been jealous of someone else’s business. Nor regretful after a deal is struck.
We’ll see if anyone tries the ” glue and paint ” trick or the ” weekend bank deposit and someone else will collect it in a half hour “. Or the ” what’ll you take for it ” shyster. There will be someone who just hasn’t quite got enough for the sale but if you’ll reduce it by 20%…because they have driven a long way…
I hope none of this describes club mates…
