MiG 17 – Part One – I Buy By Price

And I buy cheap.

My trip to the hobby shop was for paint – of course I detoured into the kit aisle, and of course I looked over all the 1:72 offerings there. The shop is one that I rarely get to, so it may contain things not seen before.

This was so, but while some of the sights were for sore eyes, some were to make eyes sore. Particularly the Czech kit prices. They are not excessive for regular wage-earners, but for retirees they would represent a ponderable decision.

Fortunately there are a number of moulders who want more western money and are prepared to sell their products cheaply. In some cases they are very good factories and you really do yourself a favour if you look over the racks.

I hasten to add that before I just blindly browse and buy, that I have a master list of airplane types that I hope to add to my museum display.

The Zvezda MiG 17 is needed for the Egyptian Air Force, which is in turn needed for Schmattarim Museum. I think that there are other firms that make MiGs but if you are trying for an authentic model, who better than the Russians to mould it? They have the licence info on the front of the box.
