Kicked In The Zip

Normally an unpleasant sensation, I found out today that it was quite all right. And I will be looking to do it again in the future.

Now don’t get nervous, and stop wincing. I am writing about the use of an accelerant to get cyanoacrylate cement to set quickly. I have bought a bottle of Zip Kicker.

Other people may use different super glues – I have tried out dime store brands and the Selleys tubes from Bunnings, but always come back to the Zap products as most effective for me. Currently I favour the medium Zap-A-Gap in the half-ounce plastic bottle. I’ve worked out how to keep it patent until I need it and get full value for money.

However, in our dry climate, it sometimes takes an inordinately long time to start gripping. I breathe on it to try to start it with water vapour, but then it can be awkward. I don’t use fillers like baking soda or little plastic powders, so the initial set is an important factor.

The bottle of Zip Kicker wasn’t cheap, but then nothing in the hobby shop is. I’ve discovered that the merest swipe of it will set the Zap-A-Gap off so a tiny paint brush can do the job perfectly. It is just the shot for repair work like the landing gear leg on the Nakajima Kate.
