When In Trouble, Reach For The Foam Board

I found myself in another of those awkward positions. Not as bad as Page 38 of the Kama Sutra, but nearly so…I was under the workbench, in a pretzel shape, trying to decal a fighter plane. The sort of procedure you work yourself up to gradually in an evening of modelling. Before you realise it you have lost consciousness, and from there it is only a short step to a seat in the Federal Senate…

What I really needed was an extra three pairs of hands to hold the fuselage safely while I applied the decals to the sides. The top and bottom of the wing were no problem as the plane could be held on those flat surfaces. But unless you’re building a Junkers, fuselage sides are not flat.

Well, foam board, double sided tape, pins and rubber door seal came to the rescue. All surplus goods for free. The rack is self-explanatory. It will service small 1:72 planes. If I go ahead to twin-engine or four-engine ships I’ll make larger copies. The procedure is rendered simple and safe and my spinal discs will not slip.
