The Flory modelling group are going to embark upon a fun build every year – Matchbox March. They intend to build the classic old Matchbox kits – some with enamel paints – much as they might have been done in the 70’s and 80’s. I intended to follow along myself with one of Paul’s stash kits; the Supermarine Stranraer.
It ticked all the boxes:
a. Matchbox from 1979.
b. Good condition.
c. Verifiable as used by the RCAF at one time. Pictures avaiable.
d. Simple silver colour scheme and simple markings.
e. It was March.
The kit was a three-colour one – green, brown, and grey. Clean moulding – as it would be, being new back then. Sad decals, but at least they gave the dimensions for new purchases or printing. Wonderful clear parts.
It had provision for wheels on land and could be posed at an RCAF seaplane base – along with the Delta, The City Of Prince George, and the Swordfish, I daresay. And whatever else I build that would have floated at the time. I’m already turning over ideas for some way of making a seaplane base to mirror RCAF WET DOG. I shall base it in Nova Scotia and call it RCAF GLEET BAY.
