On some occasions I will have all I need to decorate a model but miss out on one thing.

In this case it is a set of small decals for the airframe number. There is one on the Academy decal sheet, but it’s wrong for the Hendon camel. I adopt a sensible attitude to these things – neither grieving nor spending – I just go ahead with what I have and if the right number eventually turns up or is printed I can simple add it later. I won’t stop a build or shelf a model on such petty grounds.

The Camel is a delight – the kit fitting superbly with no complaint whatsoever from the struts or the landing gear. The cockpit is a farrago and the decal roundels a nightmare, but overall it has come out very well. I shall probably settle upon these two colours for more British aircraft in lieu of wild variations in the hues.

As noted before, however, the business of the roundels will now come under serious study – all the examples I see on the YouTube channels that are painted on are in 1:48 or larger. But the Olfa cutter can go down as small as 5 or 6 mm – so I cannot see why it can’t cut me some accurate circles. It’ll just be a matter of centring them well and getting the white – blue – red sequence to look similar on all layers.
