From the stash of an old modeller – with a few surprises along the way.
This kit was in the legacy stash of an old club mate. I purchased it with several others to build in tribute to him, but did not have a fixed project in mind.
He had apparently intended it to become an RAAF plane, and most probably a two-seater night fighter variant. Possibly the NF.8. There were parts in the kit in a similar green plastic to the main moulding that duplicated a section of the top of the fuselage and the tail. The main kit is late 50’s Airfix in a box but the spare parts are a mystery. Perhaps Matchbox?

The sprue trees are hard plastic. The spares as well. The canopies are thick, but clear.

The instructions are Airfix adequate, but the kit has some mystery about it – there is a good deal of Japanese printing on the box ends and sides and a Gunze logo as well. There is a spare sheet of instructions in Japanese – I think this was an export collaboration intended for the far-eastern market.

The decal sheet is early Airfix – crude enough but at least in registry. I have an Xtradecal kit for a number of alternative air forces that suggest avoiding the kit build.
