Sopwith Triplane – Part Two – The New Techniques

I have decided to risk navigating this PaulPlane in only two uncharted waters: the use of the new decal technique and a new finishing varnish. The third experiment – the plastic rigging – will be postponed until a slightly larger model offers. It’s nice stuff, but a little thick for this job.

The decaling system – laying the things dry on a wet paper towel before sliding off – is based upon the experiments undertaken earlier in thee year. As Revell decals went down so well then, I expect them to go down well here. The sheet looks to be in good condition.

The finishing system will involve some Tamiya and Gunze alcohol-based acrylics and then a final coat of Micro-Scale Micro Satin. The paints are exact colours for the plane, as opposed to the lacquers I have to hand that are some way away from precise shade. I might as well use up the acrylics now – before they dry in the bottles and are wasted.

The Micro product gave a good result in a test spray one time…so now I screw my courage to the sticking point and use it in earnest.

Wish me luck.
