RCAF Privateer – Part One – Hello, Old Friend

The last time I saw you, you were in three colours in a Matchbox kit.

Scalemates says that you have been sold to Revell and reboxed. It also said that you were originally fitted out with alternate nose and tail sections to make an RCAF transport aircraft. Is it possible that you still have those parts…?

I shall take the gamble and pay the considerable price for you. If my bet pays off I will have a companion for the RCAF Flying Boxcar and the Lancaster rescue plane. I shall take you home.

Here we are and let’s look inside. A sealed bag – that’s a good sign.

And there we are. A nice rounded nose and an equally rounded tail. And RCAF roundels. And they have gotten rid of the ” Rockcliffe Ice Wagon ” graphics for the nose. And it’s all grey plastic – we’re playing with the grownups now. I couldn’t be more pleased.

I also note that the main wheel wells are immensely well-moulded and have deep structural members as well as firm attachment points. If only all the moulders could do this. Hats off to Matchbox/Revell.

No pictures of the decal sheet or the instructions – no time. I need to start clipping this off the sprue trees right away. Before it turns to faery gold and disappears. Cor, look at the framing on the main canopy…

  1. Very interesting! I really like the privateer but it seems the only model will be the matchbox/revell kit. I’ll pick one up the next time I see one. Also, I didn’t know there was an RCAF privateer! And it served so close to me. Very cool. Thanks for posting.
