Yak 3 – Part One – Yak On

Do not be frightened off by the complexity of the Hobby Boss Yak 3 fighter plane kit. I shall master it.

I snatched it off the hobby shop shelf in relief – I need one more Soviet fighter for a diorama and there is limited time for the build. What better than Hobby Boss. While I am taking time to quickly photograph it and write this a second kit – an Ilyushin Il-2 – is sitting in the paint booth drying.

The occasion is another library display – the airfields are nearly ready and we just need more aircraft in place. This is the first Yak I’ve built and the fact that it is a $ 14 HB snap-together is a distinct advantage. With a little fancy finger work it’ll be ready at the same time as the Sturmovik.

No new construction complications – decals look decent – and if I opt for the smaller ones there will be less likelihood of folding them over on themselves. Wish me luck, comrade.

Oh, If you look closely at the colour call-out it is very strange – they refer to Light Gull grey as Light Blue and ask for a green pearl on the upper camouflage. I’ll be using Light Gull grey and Russian green with a little light grey added and let it go at that.
