Apparently the basic design for this class of Soviet trucks is an American vehicle of the 1930’s, though I don’t know if it is meant to be Ford or Chevrolet.
In any case they adapted it to all sorts of roles at the time, as they did for many vehicles in the 1950’s and 50’s. Nowadays they make their own truck designs. The challenge when adding vehicles to a diorama is to make sure that they could actually be extant at the time the scene is set.

The basic chassis is simple. the extra additions quite complex. This kit is straight and true, so adding extra elements is really easy. I am hopeful that all the tyres will hit the ground at the same time. Painting that many tyres, as well, posed a challenge – you need to devise a method of holding them firm while you get round the entire moulding. Fortunately the coffee stick as a beam worked well. It would have been even faster with the airbrush, but who’s to fuss.

And yes, I do prefer the design of the wheels separate from the tyres – so much easier to get a clean edge to the rubber and steel interface. Fortunately the craze for revolving wheels and play features doesn’t often extend down to this scale.
