Well, I claim privilege. This is my column and my model and I can break step when I like.
I stopped being 14 years old long enough to operate the computer and the printer and printed out that decal sheet you saw in Part Two. It was coated with a matt varnish and left for days to harden.
Then after the blue and red basic colours went on, I scissored the lozenge off the major sheet and trimmed it to a little larger than the wings and tail. A soak in warm water, a coat of Mr Mark Setter, and the sheets slid off onto the model.
The decal sheet came from Sydney in large sizes – A4 – and was as pliable as any European decal once down. The lozenge pattern was actually quite attractive once it settled in. It got and overnight rest to snuggle down and dry out before the edges were trimmed.
I should not like to do a Gotha or Stakken with the same sort of technique – this size is large enough for my nerves to cope with.
