And call me sushi – the Airfix Aichi Val is looking pretty good.
The top and bottom colours have gone on the AIrfix Val and I have taken the precaution of glossing them into place with Mr. Color No. 46. It is a cool day and there are travelling showers – I do not want to risk using a water-based acrylic clear coat to seal the colours. Too much risk of water vapour inclusion and subsequent clouding. I spray thinned No. 46 and quick-dry it with a hair dryer – then let it cure in a warm cabinet for half an hour. I’ll have a smooth surface to settle the decals onto.
If it were just Hinomarae ( Ow, ow, ow… ) I would risk the semigloss of the Mr. Color IJA green and grey – but there are fuselage stripes and tail numbers as well as landing gear spat decorations. I can flat down later after the decals are on.
I shall undoubtedly be twitted by anoraks about the shades of green and grey and the leading edge stripes and the decals. But I am working from the box art that came with the Fujimi Val, and it looks pretty good to me.
