Caudron C-445 – Part Five – Personal Transport

And in this case, away from the scene of battle. This is a 1940 colour scheme…

No regrets. The Mr. Color Super Stainless over an adequately prepared surface is a very rewarding metallic finish. It’s best shot with Levelling Thinner, and in thin coats, but patience wins out in the end and you do not need to clear coat it for decal application.

RS buy a reasonably decent print job for their models – the decals float off in a short time, and as long as you have a good surface to receive them with some liquid settler in place they can drop in almost anywhere. The large patches of clear carrier on the wing registration numbers can be daunting, but if you are careful they adhere and disappear. It would pay to trim the film as close to the lettering as you felt comfortable with.

The roundels are silly – they print red and white circles and then you add the central blue dot after. I cannot see why they cannot be printed concentrically to begin with. But I quibble – in the end they all look good.

The landing gear was pleasing on this RS model in that the struts and braces were accurately moulded for the receiving points in the nacelle and went in perfectly. Not so good was the solid axle that had to be clipped apart to get the wheels and tyres in. I am always nervous trimming thin plastic struts.

The Armée de l’Air shelf is nearly full now and it looks as if it is time to increase the section into pre and post war types. I constantly search for old Heller kits and their re-issues to expand the roster.
