Austin Armoured Car – Part One – Tovarich…

No, I am not going to go looking for a 1:72 model of Lenin. The Austin A/C is destined for Uszhitmi Aerodrome as perimeter protection. Not that anyone would want to go there to attack it. Uszhitmi is where they send people who are exiled from Siberia.

It was a last minute pickup from Hobbytech this afternoon as I went looking for a vaguely Soviet vehicle. I wanted a Gaz truck of some sort but they were out. The Austin and a package of Soviet airfield personnel were the find of the day, however, and I am perfectly satisfied. I’ll chase the Gaz elsewhere.

The company – Master Box Ltd. is a new one to me. Seems to originate from Dnepropetrovsk in the Ukraine. The product is first-rate in every respect; boxing, art, decals, sprue trees, design, instructions. It looks like they intend it for Britain, France, Ukraine, Russia, and Germany.

The options for the markings are wide – the car was used in the WW1 and revolutionary periods all over the place. I shall use the Russian decals, even though they are probably those of a White Russian unit. If pressed to it, I can plaster a scruffy red star onto the inscription.

Quite what the library patrons will make of Uszhitmi Aerodrome is anyone’s guess, but if I can persuade my computer to type all the signs in Cyrillic I may get away with it. I need a Russian-speaking accomplice…
