S.P. – Part Two – Polish Soft Serve

The plastic with which this Polish kit is moulded is not quite as soft and flaky as that used in the French Mach 2 offerings…but not too much harder.

It is softer than new Airfix styrene and it pays not to cut too close to a moulded surface for fear of gouging or tearing. However, this softness yields beautifully to the sanding stick and then later cements readily. If the makers are wise enough to give enough area to bond to, you need not worry about later failure.

The heading image is one mornings cutting and cementing at the club. Unseen portions of the structure are…agricultural…but the externals are lovely.

The question of plastic eventually comes down to personal preference. I am an Airfix man myself – the consistency seems perfect. I tsk tsk at the harder varieties that some people enjoy and find them hard to predict. Too soft – as in Mach 2 or some old Soviet remoulds – is also a pain. You are always repairing some spot that has torn out, and you can hardly avoid having to work hard on the flashy and imprecise parts.
