Revell Sopwith Camel – Part One – Not My First Rodeo

Nor my first Camel, either. This example is from Friend Paul. The previous one was from Friend Warren. You can become my friend by presenting me with a model airplane, too.

The first camel was an Academy model, and I think I should have built this one first, as an old Revell vs a new Academy would have been a journey from dark to light. However, we will proceed – and there will be a good opportunity to build an out-of-the-bag kit as there is a different colour call-out and set of decal markings. Call me lazy or easily-led, but I regard the designers as having enough authority to decide what is correct.

The sprue trees are flashy, sink-holed, and ejector-pinned, which is only to be expected. The baggie fold-over is in good condition and features a photo rather than drawing – a feature pegging it at a certain time…1974-78. A small detail on it tells us that it was moulded in New Zealand but the line on the sheet that says it is ” molded in color ” is undoubtedly taken directly from a US graphic design sheet. There is no cut-out coupon missing from the instruction sheet.

It apparently cost $ 1.34 at some stage at K Mart.

Decals look fine, the instruction sheet is far better than the originals. And there is a pilot with legs.
