” Slice Me Off About $ 5.00 Worth, Love…”

” And is the polony fresh…? “

A reader of this column who lives in my same town has raised an interesting question re. the dearly-remembered Antonov AN 225 cargo jet. Apparently there is a 1:72 kit of it from the Ukrainian maker ” Modelsvit “. A massive thing, of course, and one of those kits that needs to be built with a fibreglass fuselage and wings. And in this case the wings are steel-pinned so that they can be removed for transport.

Not a weekend project…

The question arose about whether the kit costs more per kilo than the real aircraft did. I net-researched and did some conversions of prices paid when it was built – or in service – and now. The prices I eventually used were Australian Dollars.

Apparently in 2013 the thing was valued at ≅ AUD $ 258,531,540. Plus change for the machine. The weight has been stated at 285,000 Kg. So each Kg is AUD $ 907.

The Modelsvit kit is worth about AUD $ 1000 if anyone has it in stock – it weighs 2.50 Kg. A snip at AUD $ 390 per Kg.

Getting the box in the house undetected would be the tough part.
