Where’s You Bin All My Life?

In de bin? Well, you-all come on outta dere. You needed.

Every day we discard; possessions, loved ones, opportunities to become rich quick…and packaging. Lordy, how we do throw away packaging. Because the people who sell us food and clothes and devices package the stuff up way past the point of no-return.

Probably because they are afraid we’ll return it.

Well, battle as you will, Captain Frugal is going to lead the no-charge to better modelling by salvaging some of the wretched excess and turning it to good use. Not exactly dumpster diving, but close – not letting anything go until it has been squeezed of all value.

The tray you see holding the cements and washes for my indoors modelling bench started life as a tray holding square brownies and lemon slices. The baked goods went into the local ladies at a tea party and the tray has come back here to be repurposed. It is perfect for GSI Creos square bottles and allows you to twist off the applicator tops one-handed – while holding the model with the other paw. You’ll observe a number of different types and consistencies for different jobs.

A smaller version of this – carved from the same bulk packaging – does a similar duty in the work shed.

And that is only the bottom of the package – the top is just as useful. It will doubtless reappear in due course holding the next collection of modelling goods. All at the price of just not throwing it out.

Now to find a modelling use for old banana peels.
