This is not a black and white post…
I was gifted a number of paint bottles – a LARGE number – and had to decide what to do with them. The first step was to ascertain whether they could be used with my normal airbrush and thinners – and apparently they could, with good success.
Fine. The next step was to determine which of the bottles were dry or expired; surprisingly few. The enamel paint in them seemed to retain its fluidity longer than the lacquers I use. Perhaps a better seal on the bottle.
Then to clean the bottles, and arrange them. The spectrum was as good a criterion for organisation as any so they were sorted into that. Unfortunately the packaging did not use coloured tops that would allow quick recognition – that was dealt with by affixing a sticky label on each bottle and writing a brief name on it.
Then back into the rack. This was a commercial sales rack salvaged from the collapse of a local hobby shop, It was fine for dispensing the paints but hid the bulk of them in long chutes – it obscured the labels on the tops.
So an index book was needed. I wrote each paint into the list in its shelf and chute. If I keep the list with the rack, I should be able to get within 10 chances of any one bottle.

And as a final note: I thank the donor sincerely – but I have never seen so many shades of grey/gray/grau in my life. Even the car park at my local train station does not have as many.
