And not the one in Scotland, either. Aberdeen Proving Ground, Harford County, Maryland. The US Army testing facility. There’s another one at Dugway in Utah, but you don’t want to stand downwind of it…

The Zvezda kit provided decals for the Aberdeen tank, so it got the nod. That meant that it could be very minimally weathered – as if it had just been delivered for testing. This also meant that all the parts provided could be attached – presumably none of them had be knocked off or broken at the start of the trials.

Colour was as specified by the kit instructions and it accorded fairly well with what GSI Creos wanted to provide. The final coat was a spray of Testor’s Dullcote – good finish, but at the price they charge for a can here in Australia you want to be sparing with it. It can also make for odd results with some acrylic colour coats – but this tank is working on a lacquer for the olive drab.

I’m very pleased with this model – it has finally given me closure for the Mexican visit.
