Will Ruritania Join NATO?

This is a question that has been exercising the minds of diplomats all over Europe this past year.

With events to the east of the kingdom there is a growing nervousness about military preparation. The Royal Ruritanian Army and their air arm, the RRAAF, have petitioned for additional armaments and fortresses.

The previous air force was bolstered by Caudron and Saetta fighters, and a Dornier bomber. There was even a Savoia Marchetti that worked until a museum offered too much money for it and it flew away. However, the time has come for new aerial protection and the search is on for fresh planes.

Ruritania has always had a tradition of frugality when it comes to military spending, and this generally means taking what is given. Or what has been left on the verge for collection at someone else’s air base. This time it will be no exception. The RRAAF needs jets and they are not too proud – they’ll take anything.

Fortunately, there are a number of air forces nearby that are also feeling nervous about the east. They are bolstering their defences and there will be some bargains to be had. Stay tuned to see the Kingdom fly into the 21st century. It may be low and slow, but that means they will be able to sneak up on an enemy. And then sneak away in case they find them.
