Mig 21R – Part Two – I’m Gonna Sit Down

And shut up. The judgement that I made about the Condor people making agricultural models is all taken back. They do good work.

The basic structure of any kit is…well…basic. I have purchased kits that have been moulded with dismay and disappointment in every seam. Fortunately the seams are also moulded so wide open that they are insulated from each other and do not ignite. Not so with this MiG 21R. these panels and wings fit. This was a surprise, but a pleasant one.

I do confess to some filing and sanding on the nose but look at how it has responded to the undercoat. I should get that sleekness from some of the other major makers that charge 3 x the price.

The basic colour coat was not very shiny – this may have been one of the first instances that I used Stein’s special ever-changing silver/gray mattgloss acrylic lacquerish stuff in a pot. It is a universal stew that never gets entirely eaten before the next ingredient goes in. One day I am going to be able to get my hands on phosgene and then we’ll REALLY see some spray painting!

Admire that masking – it took a hour of puzzling out how to do it.
