Mig 23 Flogger – Part Two – Homeland Defender

I have gotten jaded in my old age – the effect of having internet images to turn to.

I no longer follow the maker’s colour call out slavishly if there is another scheme that attracts the eye. The fact that the decals may not be exactly right is of little consequence. Don’t judge me.

Thus the multi-colour that Academy would have urged me to was discarded for a plainer Air Defence grey and a national marking. One like this exists in a museum so that is fine by me. At least I get to paint the wheels that weird Soviet green colour and the cockpit ( which is non-existent ) gets a splash of Soviet blue.

The landing gear is down, as noted before, and the wings are out. As the ordnance is still aboard we can regard this as a take-off. I wish I had an old translucent orange flame from a Hawk V-1 or Baka Bomb kit to finish the tailpipe

Now there’s a project to do for scratch-building – make a series of jet exhaust flames in various scales in silicon rubber moulds. Then pour them in clear orange resin…
