The Birthday Money

I got my birthday money and went to the hobby shops to spend it.

I went to three different ones in my city, and enjoyed myself in each…though not as much as you might expect. It was like being a fussy kid in candy stores that either did not have any fresh lollies…or had priced the sweets too high.

Now I had a good wad of cash…remember that I am retired so I know the value of a dollar…but I was not about to spend it at modern prices. I wanted value for money.

First shop had expensive tank kits by superb makers. And buried in the middle of the pricey ones was the one I wanted…at half price. Old stock, I suspect, and possibly not as detailed as newly-moulded examples. But my builds are copies of museum relics, and they frequently are made up of remnants anyway. A good bargain.

Second shop had pricey 1/72 scale aircraft kits that would have jangled the nerves even as they were being built. Too much money riding on them. I excused myself with a new bottle of paint.

Third shop had lots of the same thing as everywhere else, but one aircraft kit was again desirable and half price. New but unloved. The Kit Whisperer tucked it under the arm and all was well…

More shops later – the birthday money is still abundant.
