Polikarpov I-3 – Part Two – Simple Pimple

In a flurry of experimentation i decide to take a compact camera to my hobby club to document the start of the Polikarpov project.

It was largely successful, as I was able to take pictures of a lot of other member’s workplaces as well. These will be used to blackmail them in the future.

As far as my place on the club tables, it is perfect. A haven of order and precision in a sea of chaos. I am surprised that it has not won awards…The Decor mug is filled with coffee.

The trick is the light – that little Lume Cube I bought on a whim a few years ago plus the Novoflex tabletop tripod are small enough to go anywhere and last for over 6 hours at medium intensity. It makes all the difference in seeing the parts I am cutting – and sanding across a ridge is easy when the light grazes the surface.

The cockpit of the Polikarpov is simple, yet there is a seat, pedals, stick, and instruments and the floor of the cockpit actually fits in the fuselage halves first go. Many Czech firms could learn from the Poles.

As far as the small camera – a Pentax D90 I inherited – it does a splendid job for illustration – the macro or super-macro setting is all you need to get in close. It is not as adaptable as my bigger Fujifilms, but convenient enough to carry everywhere with the rest of the modelling tools.
