Model Car Sunday – Part One

Actually it is called the Model Car Spectacular now but I remember it from a decade ago with the older name.

Whichever you choose, it is a good value local model show on a wet Sunday. It’s an annual, and some of the exhibitors use the year fully to make new models.

Themed, of course, but there is such a wide landscape of terrestrial vehicles that the enthusiasts never need flag for ideas. They are solidly supported by the trade, as well. I can only imagine the spares boxes that some of the older chaps have…

The models are also likely to be more colourful and clean than the average plastic model tank or airplane. For the military displays I might turn my camera to Velvia film simulation, but for this one it is reined back to Pro Neg. Even then I do pass the 70-or so files through RAW processing to control the saturation. Model car builders do not fight over demi-shades of grey or olive drab when they go to their airbrush booths.

This is much the case with real car enthusiasts, whether for hot rods or restorations. The later may insist upon factory colour charts but the former allow themselves every liberty that can be taken with spectrum and reflectance. If it can take another layer of paint, it will get it.
