Come to that, is it matt or matte? I’m sure there will be frantic semantic pedantics out there who can make a half-hour lecture out of these questions.
There is also the question of whether you need to use any paint apart from gloss if you intend to varnish the final
product. You crank in the specularity with that last coat.
Okay, if I am going to be doing a large amount of decal placement on an aircraft, I want a gloss surface under each decal. I can make little glossy spots under the insignia, but often the final dull coat doesn’t really conceal these. A fill gloss coat is insurance.
But a tank? If the finish is to be a festival of mud and scraped steel, why not use matte paints to begin with?
