New Show

Old theatre.

The Western Australian scale model exhibition took place this last weekend and a lot of people held their breaths. The long-serving committee that had presented it for many years past ( decades, perhaps… ) had decided to retire and there was some concern that the exhibition would cease.

A new committee was formed and they set out for a year’s journey on the learning curve to present a 2024 show. On their way they found that timing is crucial since they did not want to clash with other model events – and the chosen venue is popular for many exhibitions. The date changed from previous years…though I don’t know if it will revert next year.

The first day saw plenty of helpers setting up the hall, and several new groups displaying. A charitable organisation – in this case Legacy – was in attendance and the committee organised both a coffee van and a sausage sizzle stall. Very good management – people really appreciated the food and drink.

The Saturday was well-attended. Previous years might have seen it clash with sporting events that kept crowds away, but this year the aisles were crowded. Sunday was even better – as there is a stash sale in the morning and the judging of the scale model competition in the afternoon.

We’ll await the report from the committee, but I expect it will be a favourable one – it looks as though the exhibition is set to continue success for another decade.

PS: The hobby declining? HAH! Not if the crowds and the trade were any indication.
