It All Tasted Like Chicken Stew

Even if it hissed and rattled.

Boy Scout cooking was adventurous if nothing else. Like bush tucker and hobo stew, nearly everything could be put in a pot and boiled. It all came out tasting the same. A wise Scout let someone else try it first.

I have been looking at a nest of bottles in the workshop and the model boxes. All purport to be the answer to masking, but all are different. I have decided to experiment to see if they are all just the same.

The main problem with the big bottle of Art Spectrum masking fluid is the fact that it dries into something that looks like clear snot. This is not bad, but makes it hard to see where you have painted it. The other types all have some colouring to them.

I decided to mix some of the Gunze, Micro, and Art Spectrum in a dish and try to paint a clear canopy so it could be sprayed. The three fluids mixed well and left a medium blue result. This was easy to put on with a trimmed cocktail stick.

It dried at about the same rate as usual and then I gave it a shot with a Tamiya rattle can. After this dried I picked the panels off with another cocktail stick and noted that it was a lot better result than I can get with masking tape or a bow pen.

As they say, do your best until you know better – then do better. I will be adopting this method in future.
