Solved. Until the next one crops up.
The fuselage, wings, and tail of the Potez observation aircraft are together and the amount of filler is absolutely minimal. I have undercoated and smoothed it, and could not be happier.

In the intervals of waiting for things to set or dry I tackled the engines, wheels, landing gear, etc. All neat little sub-assemblies and all small enough to drop on the floor and disappear. My workshop floor is worse than the club’s one – the concrete is wearing out under my workshop stool and the surface is rough enough to hide a Superfortress.
Finally realising that if I did nothing to remedy the situation I would go mad, I found a pack of old shop price cards – bright fluorescent colours – and stuck the sub-assemblies as they were completed onto them with low-tack tape.

The lot then drops into a plastic box with a lid and can be run between workbenches without parts escaping.

If this seems obsessive, the alternative of kneeing around the workshop floor with an LED torch is far worse. Note that the paints needed for the kit travel with the box as well and the language is much politer.
