Norcanair DC-3 – Part One -The Ex-Dakota

A former Canadian airline, Norcanair, probably got their fleet of DC-3 aircraft from the RCAF – if the big side cargo door is anything to go by.

This is wonderful – I need a distinct type for my Canadian airport and as this kitted so widely by Airfix and Italeri, I am spoilt for choice.

The sprue trees are clean and brown, and it is only the interior that will need any degree of reworking. I do not have a picture yet of the DC-3 interior in this Saskatchewan service, but I can imagine. And as I have a set of seat left over from an airliner that was just too crowded, there should be no problem.

All the same, I would like to see what the inside looked like when they were hauling junk to and from Fort McMurray. I can source boxes, bales, and a small moose.

The kit as a Dakota has all the D-Day stripes, stars, and roundels that you would need for that version. I keep these sheets for when I need a pure white or black panel as Italeri decals go on so well.

The rest of the kit should be no surprise as this will be the fourth DC-3 I have built; another RCAF in preserved condition, a French Aeronavale plane, and a USAAF aircraft from the South Pacific theatre.

I do like the type, though they are big things to store.
