Vickers Viscount – Part One – A Dollar Bet

Ever the gambler, I decided that this one-of-a-kind Hong Kong kit was going to be built.

It was one of a legacy stash, and totally unique. The firm that made it, Kader, seems to have started in 1970 with a range of British-prototype aircraft kits. Internet searching turns up a number of box-scale offerings and a very odd YouTube presentation by someone who is convinced of the possible re-sale value of this sort of thing. He handles a kit with vinyl gloves…

I am not that tragic. I will build it, rather than trade it, and make an Air Canada Viscount. Home-made decals, and the result reminiscent of the airlines office models that used to sell flight to people when it was an exotic product.

There is a temptation to make it as a TAA model as well, so stick with me to the end to see what happens.

The moulding is nice, with thick silvery plastic and only a few sink marks. The broken props are no problem, because they are coming off anyway. I am undecided about the plastic stand – it might actually prove an asset, if suitably weighted.

Scale? Apparently about 1/127.
