RWD 5bis – Part One – The Dollar Flier

I have no idea where the original owner of this kit obtained it.

Like as not, it was sent to the UK during the Warsaw pact era as a foreign-currency earner and was probably sold quite cheaply. I obtained it for a dollar – rough cardboard box and all.

I have had a number of Polish model kits and have learned to disregard the oddities of the packaging or instructions – the mouldings themselves are often superb. And some modern makers – Like IBG – are as good as any in the modelling world. This tiny monoplane kit has three sprue trees and so little flash as to escape casual attention. The clear parts look good and are carefully inscribed with the frame lines – an essential for my new painting technique.

The plastic is average hardness, the decal sheet suspicious, and the instructions missing. Fortunately there are plenty of pictures of the real thing, both in original and reproduction form. It has history…
