RWD 5bis – Part Three – Bon Dia

Or Dzień Dobry, if you are just starting out.

Because this little 450Kg light plane flew from Warsaw to Brazil. Not in one leap, nor in one day, but it started and finished a winner. For a long time the lightest aircraft to cross the Atlantic.

The model is also a winner, and will take its place in my collection beside the Spirit of St. Louis. If I can locate a SOUTHERN CROSS that will be built as well. It may be an old FROG/Nova offering but I’ll make it sing.

It is tiny – a Gipsy Major engine of about 5 Litre capacity, I left off the kit’s long muffler and fairing as I cannot find evidence of it with the original flight.

The decals were strengthened with clear varnish, soaked for a long time, and finally attached with Tamiya decal adhesive. They had long since lost any stickiness by themselves. Fortunately they went down very well.

I hope that I got it right – the absence of the instructions made me a little nervous, but so does the sight of my in-laws.
