Hwacheon Dam!

As I understand it, The UN forces in Korea in 1951 took exception to the use of the Hwacheon Dam by the North Koreans and decided to do something about it.

The something turned out to be Mk 13 aerial torpedoes from the WW!! magazine stores of USS PRINCETON. Few aboard had any experience with the weapons and there was a good deal of studying of old manuals. They eventually got eight of them under the Skyraiders and with an escort of F4U Corsairs to suppress the flak, they lined up on the dam.

Not all the torpedoes worked, but enough of them did to hole and disable the structure.

This Fujimi kit was perfect for an attempt to make a 1951 Skyraider. There are no unit numbers, as none of my spare decals match the 500-series of the raiders. But the Mk.13 underneath is pretty good and I have a Corsair to display with it.
