And if they don’t have it, neither will we.
Shopping at the local hobby shops is a good idea. It gives business and employment to local people and keeps vital supplies available to us year-round.
Except when it doesn’t. Shops can run dry of all sorts of things for all sorts of reasons – and some of them are not good ones. Businesses have failed due to inappropriate ordering, staff difficulties, corporation difficulties, and location difficulties. If you add transportation difficulties and wholesaler problems, the whole thing starts to look nightmarish.
I want to sleep better at night so I consign most of these cares to the Not Mine basket. It is sort of stoical and sort of lazy, but as I cannot make the kits or paints arrive faster than they would otherwise do by worrying…I don’t.
As a kid my stash was one model – it was he one I could afford and was working on. If it stalled for want of paint I waited until the little Humbrol rack in the drug store was restocked. Surely I can be even more patient now that I have shelves of paint and models at home.
